Informing Advocacy and Industry Dialogue
Formal Perspectives on Industry Matters
Approved by the ASGA Board of Directors, our position statements serve to inform members, government entities, and the public, offering a structured view on matters of significance within the aggregate industry.
Referrals & Pricing Data
The Alberta Sand and Gravel Association (ASGA) is often contacted seeking a referral to member companies for aggregate products, consulting services, support for community projects, or other requests. While we would like to help, the ASGA has a policy of not recommending or referring individual ASGA members regardless of the product, service, or project request.
We are also unable to provide data related to gravel prices over time, current gravel pricing, or questions associated with the value of land with gravel deposits. Since it is a market-driven resource, producers determine pricing through consideration of a number of elements; including production costs, location, products, volumes, and current availability of resources.
Anyone seeking information on producers, industry consultants, or other ASGA member companies should contact those operating in the area you are inquiring about; the ASGA website listing of current ASGA Members or a referral from the local municipality can be a good starting point. Unfortunately, the ASGA cannot recommend any particular member company or provide information, data, or estimates on pricing of product, product delivery costs, or land values.
Decal Usage
While exceedingly rare, we have been advised on occasion of haulers who attempt to have “knock off” decals, including multiples of the annual renewal decals, printed in an effort to bypass the registration process. The ASGA treats this issue seriously.
ASGA works with municipal authorities on this and other issues, and provides listings of vehicle numbers that have current/valid registration, and those which do not. Local bylaw enforcement personnel will be asked to notify ASGA if any inconsistencies are noted. NOTE: The ASGA Truck Registry Program allows only PRODUCER MEMBERS (i.e. Producers with development permits) to register vehicles, renew vehicles, order replacement decals, update information, and review the listings of vehicles registered by their company. THERE IS NO OTHER SOURCE FOR OBTAINING ASGA TRUCK REGISTRY DECALS OTHER THAN THE ASGA.
Rock Damage Reports
The Alberta Sand and Gravel Association (ASGA) sometimes receives messages from the driving public regarding vehicle or windshield damage by trucks carrying the ASGA logo. Anyone who drives on Alberta streets and highways knows that vehicles are subjected to road hazards that can result in dents and scratches, as well as pits, cracks, or chips to windshields as an inevitable part of driving. Even minute particles of dirt or sand can pit or scratch windshields.
ASGA will send the complaint to the Member company the reported vehicle is registered to. The company will notify the driver that a complaint has been received and verify that the driver is meeting the standards of practice required by them. Beyond this, our position is that the driving public will remedy any damage to their vehicle or windshield in the same manner they would address damage from any other source or hazard on Alberta’s roads and highways.
